It's Not All About You

02 Mar 2010

I recently asked for recommendations on Twitter and Facebook, partly out of interest. I wanted to see how many people would recommend or refer others, and how many would simply push their own services.

I was interested in this because of the amount of people recently who have latched on status updates to try to sell. It's not normally well received.

Stand out from the crowd. If you see the opportunity to recommend someone from your network in social networking discussions, and it is appropriate, do so. The more you are seen to be willing to spend time talking about others in your network, the more likely they are to do the same for you.

Third party recommendation and endorsement is so much more effective than pushing your name forward when it's not necessarily asked for.
