A Note From The President
04 Mar 2010

Zanine Adams

As well as my role as ISES UK President, I’m also Head of Event Solutions and UK Sales at Visit London. It was therefore with great delight that I heard about the success of our recent Meet the Market event at the Wyndham Grand London hotel, especially since the collaborative effort by Visit London and International Confex brought so many hosted buyers face-to-face with ISES members.

Unfortunately, I was unable to be there, since I was on a knowledge transfer programme in Vancouver to understand how the city operated in order to bring the Winter Olympics to life.

During my time in the host city of the 2010 Winter Olympics, I was fortunate enough to meet with several other country’s Olympic representatives in order to understand their requirements for coming to London in 2012 and what they will need from the UK events industry.

When it comes to the concept of National Olympic Houses and bases for sponsors to provide hospitality and brand leverage, venues across London will have huge opportunities.

Many of the venues that were being used in Vancouver, had been upgraded at the expense of the corporate sponsor in order to reflect their brand. These refurbishments and additions will remain after the Games and form part of legacy plans that many companies will develop for London.

For ISES UK suppliers, there are a wealth of opportunities to enhance activity around Live Sites and city centre spaces. The requirements for building wraps, lighting, sound, entertainment and temporary structures were vast in Vancouver and they will be even greater in London in just over two years time.

I’ve returned from Vancouver incredibly inspired by how a city can work with its events industry to build an Olympic environment that produced such an amazing experience for the fans that witnessed it. I have every confidence that London will excel when it’s our turn and that ISES members will play key roles in what is the Greatest Show on Earth.

I look forward to talking to you more about my experiences in Vancouver at our next ISES event at The Hub on 23 March. Please put it in your diaries.

All the best,

Zanine Adams
